This is the best way to get rid of a tree stump
Removing a tree isn’t easy and, once it’s done, most people just stop there. Then you’re left with the stump, and you might be wondering what to do with it. Here are the best ways to get rid of the tree stump in your yard:
#1: Lower it
Grab a chainsaw and mow down the stump as low to the ground as you possibly can. If you don’t have plans to fully remove it, this is a great way to reduce any tripping hazards and will also keep the yard looking pleasing to the eye.
#2: Soften it
Head to your local home improvement store and buy a stump remover solution that will help soften the wood. Softening the wood will make it easier to grind or dig in the future.
When you use the softener, don’t just pour the remover on top of the stump. Instead, drill deep holes in the top of the stump, space them about 3 inches apart, then fill each hole with the stump remover. Next, wait until there has been a week of dry weather, so the remaining roots are looking for liquid, THEN pour in the stump solution.
#3: Add kerosene or another acidic liquid
Once you have let the remover fully absorb into the wood, you can pour kerosene or lamp oil onto the stump and let it sit for a couple of weeks. Repeat the process several times in order to allow it to rot out the roots.
